For thousands of years, we've been taught that God took a RIB from Adam's side.
But that's not what the Hebrew says.
The original Hebrew word is √7y (tsela) and it means:
SIDE.
Not RIB.
Tsela appears over 40 times in the Old Testament. And every other time, it means side.
The side of a mountain. The side of the ark. The side of the tabernacle.
How did side become rib?
The Hebrew tsela was translated into Greek as pleura - which can mean both.
Then Latin narrowed it to costa - meaning rib.
English translators followed the Latin and the real meaning was lost in translation.
Original Hebrew tsela
meant SIDE
I then translated to Greek pleura Primary meaning: SIDE (Secondary meaning: rib)
I then translated to Latin costa Primary meaning: RIB (Secondary meaning: side)
↓ then translated to English which became RIB.
This changes everything.
Eve was not fashioned from a small bone in Adam's ribcage.
She was formed from his side-half of who he was.
And there's so much more to how God created woman than we have been taught.
